As I dressed for work this morning, I listened to Christmas music on the radio. The talk-show hosts offered free tickets to something-or-other to the first listener who called in with the correct answer to the following question, “How much does the average American spend on a Christmas gift?” After the give-a-way, a commercial aired from a local mortgage broker enticing listeners to refinance their homes, rolling in all of their Christmas credit card debt into “one easy monthly payment.”
